7 Royally-Inspired Wedding Trends

Posted by Sandy D. on

Much like the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding has already inspired a new wave of wedding trends. The new Duchess of Sussex sported her own unique style and included beautiful touches that brides are scrambling to replicate.

Here are just a few of the wedding trends influenced by the royal wedding that you’ll likely see in celebrations over the next few years:

1. Sleek and understated wedding gowns

Rather than the dazzling finishes you’d find with other royal gowns, Meghan Markle chose a sophisticated and simple white Givenchy gown without embellishments. You’ll likely see many more brides walking down the aisle in similarly classic and timelessly elegant wedding gowns.

2. Natural bridal makeup

The naturally radiant Meghan Markle opted for more sheer makeup coverage on her wedding day with neutral lips and eye shadow. Future brides will likely choose lighter makeup that allows their natural beauty to shine through versus heavier stage makeup.

3. Statement veils

Meghan Markle made a dramatic entrance to Windsor Castle with a long, flowing veil draped over her tiara. Along with simpler gowns, you’ll likely see more veils that attract attention on their own (i.e., longer veils, dazzling embellishments and other extravagant touches).

4. Horse-drawn carriages

How romantic was the royal couple’s carriage ride from St. George’s Chapel? Horse-drawn carriages are relatively easy to rent and add historic charm to your wedding event.

5. Modest florals

Instead of a dramatic wedding bouquet, Meghan Markle carried a simple and small bouquet of spring blooms chosen by the groom himself the day before the wedding. Future brides may choose smaller bouquets and centerpieces instead of statement florals.

6. Gospel choirs

A full gospel choir serenaded the royal couple during the royal ceremony in a unique and memorable musical interlude. Future wedding ceremonies will likely see more gospel choirs and other unique live performances.

7. Blue convertibles

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle headed to their evening reception in a beautiful, silver-blue Jaguar convertible (while Prince William and Kate Middleton drove off in a dark blue convertible). Upcoming weddings may feature more exotic (or even blue) getaway cars to mimic that drove by Prince Harry.

Happy planning!
