7 Unique Wedding Exit Toss Alternatives

Posted by Sandy D. on

One of the first things you’ll do as an officially married couple is a grand wedding exit. A great photo opportunity and way to commemorate your first steps as man and wife is to mark your exit with a fun and personalized wedding toss or prop.

Since ancient Roman times, wedding exits have been marked with the throwing of rice or birdseed as a symbolization of prosperity and fertility. For venues with toss restrictions, bubbles have been a popular alternative. However, more and more brides are thinking outside the box when it comes to wedding exits. Here are just a few brilliant ideas for marking a wedding exit:

1. Paper airplanes

Ideal for couples who love to travel, paper airplanes help your guests channel their inner child (and are fairly easy to pick up afterward). To conserve on paper, have your wedding program double as an airplane ready for sendoff.

2. Confetti

While a more traditional alternative, colorful confetti adds a creative flair to your wedding exit. As a bonus, confetti makes a great backdrop for wedding photos!

3. Flower petals

Perfect for a garden-themed, classic or romantic wedding, throwing flower petals is a natural and fragrant touch for your wedding sendoff. Work with your florist to have flower petals match your wedding’s color scheme.

4. Leaves

For outdoor, nature-inspired or whimsical weddings, leaves make a great (and soft) throw alternative for the bride and groom. Autumn leaves of many colors adds a unique visual element for fall weddings.

5. Maracas

In addition to wedding tosses, noise-makers like maracas are a musical and joyous way to celebrate a wedding couple (and kids love them!). Painted or personalized mini-maracas are also a great wedding favor for your guests to take home after your wedding.

6. Flags

Your guests waving flags or streamers as you exit looks great for wedding photos and allows you to get around any venue toss restrictions. These can be easily customized with words, wedding colors, flags of favorite countries you’ve visited and more.

7. Bells

Another noise-making toss alternative is bells of all shapes and sizes, which add a lilting and heavenly sound to your exit. Couples have used everything from small and traditional bells to bike bells to create the perfect wedding exit ambiance.

Happy planning!
